GPS Lock Taking Too Long? Try Google Location Server supl.google.com
This could mean that Nokia Software update has some new firmware on the way and I'll finally be able to flash my phone thereby getting rid of the criminally cripple Vodafone crap - I bought this phone in part for voip and voip I shall have. I am still furious at the arrogance of the Voda bastards though - they won't be getting another contract from me, and I'll be encouraging others to the the same.

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/5168_O...
If you've bought a VOIP phone in Britain and the network operator crippled the VOIP, the UK Trading Standards people want you to complain through this government website:
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
If a phone is advertised as VOIP-compatible but the retailer (in this case the network operator) removes the VOIP, that's quite probably in breach of trading standards laws because you're not getting what was advertised.
I've just rung Vodafone for the second time to ensure that a formal complaint has been registered.
I'll also do the consumer direct thing as well as lodge a formal complaint with OfCom (which should be easy coz I work there).
Kent
I can't believe how phone networks get away with this, not just the crippling but the locking as well.
Imagine if your ISP said you could only use a computer locked to their network, you'd dump them and get a different provider. The government and/or EU would also probably be very interested in the anti-competition issues involved.
Hopefully the EU (which has just cracked down on roaming charges) will get round to banning phone locking and crippling at some point.
And what if that same ISP locked you into an 18 month contract at £50 pcm in order to allow them to discount said computer.
Don't get this all wrong, these phone companies don't really discount the phones at all. They just give you a short term loan in exchange for your business. Ultimately, I still pay for the phone one way or another - it doesn't matter that it says 'Whizzbank talk 57 - contract payment' on the bill, it is still just a loan payment on the phone.
The only other place I found that could do it wanted to charge me £35 and hold onto my phone for 24 hours... they can stick that.
Do be mindful that the King Mobile guy told me he didn't yet have the piece of kit he needed to recover from a bad flash (he's done 2 now - mine and another guys) and won't have it for another couple of weeks. If the flash fails for some reason, you'll have a bricked phone for a couple of weeks while you wait for the kit to come through.
Now I have VOIP and it is working like a charm! I use voiptalk and followed the instructions here http://www.voiptalk.org/products/nokia-e61-voip...
Enjoy :D
You say that you got your N95 unlocked. I wasn't aware that anyone (other than the networks at the moment) could unlock a BB5 phone ?
Certainly if these guys can do it (and interestingly their website still says they can't unlock BB5 phones at the moment) then it is progress :)
BTW - have you tried Truphone ? I've been using it for months now (previously on my N80) and the free calls are very attractive !!
Cheers
Joe!
I'll have a look at Truphone.
As for unlocking, I am not sure how he did it - may have been through a friend in the right job. As I said above, I gave him my IMEI as soon as I got it (although he wasn't sure if he'd be able to get the code at the time).
If you want to do it, give him a call - he'd probably do it over the phone as well with a paypal payment or something.
Cheers,
Kent.
Whilst I am at it, I just had a quick look into Truphone, and I still prefer Voiptalk.org - the prices are pretty much the same and my reasons for preferring them are as follows:
1) They have a feature called SMS callback. When you are out of Wifi range, you can text the number you want to call to them. They then call your mobile, call the other party and connect the other party and join the two calls. You pay for 2 phone calls simultaneously (to your mobile and to the 3rd party number). For international calls whilst on the hop I've not seen a better solution.
2) They have a feature called 3-call. For quite a while now, I've never had a phone plugged into the BT line. I have an incoming number through them (0207, £2 a month) that I've given out as our home number. 3 call rings up to 3 SIP id's simultaneously for one incoming number. The upshot of all this is, the 2 home phones (one is a PSTN line plugged into the back of my ISP supplied router which happens to do SIP, the other is a Snom ethernet phone I bought before I had the new router) stay plugged in all the time and whenever anybody rings the 0207 number, the SIP ID of the router and the SIP ID of the Ethernet phone are both called - I've had this set up for a while and even the most technically obtuse don't have any problems with it.
With the addition of my N95, I have a 3rd ID on 3 call that will also ring. This means, when someone calls my 'home' number (assuming I am in Wifi range anywhere in the world) both the home phones and my mobile phone ring. Further, with the caller ID set up, people see me as ringing from my home phone no matter where I am in the world - handy if you want to sneak off to somewhere exotic for a few weeks without telling work :)
That got a bit wordier than planned - any questions, drop in a comment.
Cheers,
Kent.
Quite annoyed as well because this was the main reason I got it, after spending months emailing Nokia to put SIP on my N91 - BOOOOOOO Nokia ;]
Anyway I searched on the net and found this interesting thread at whatmobile
http://www.whatmobile.net/forumvb/showthread.ph...
I actually read through the thread and it seems the thread starter and a couple of other people are all for SIP being on the n95, but at the same time, Vodafone and Orange have come out in force to shut the guy down.
So lets bolster that thread and show we are annoyed with our networks for taking SIP away from us.
As krisse said it just not on !!
Top man, although I went first time without booking and thought I was in the wrong place when I first arrived....anyone else who has been there will know what I mean ;-)
Can't wait to get the full functionality out of my n95, damn you yodafone!!!
reply directly to this email address
gabanna@hotmail.co.uk
;)
I also get a bit of weird randomness with SIP. The phone hung after I'd recieved an SMS whilst on a SIP call.
There are also the occasional reboot and 1 hang whilst nothing in particular seems to be going on. I am overstating the problems - I've been pushing it as much as I can.... still, Nokia obviously have skipped a bit of QA on this bad boy hoping to make it up with firmware releases I guess.
Does anyone know what happened to IM client (the IMPS compliant one) that was included in N80? I can't find it under any menue on my N95
Matt

Nokia N95 (01.01)
Just so it is clear the steps are:
1) Go to the Nokia Software Update website - http://europe.nokia.com/A4176089
2) Pick a phone from the list (I picked the N93)
3) Blah blah blah - download software, follow instructions
I have no idea what the changelog for this release is - if anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it.
I need to test, but one thing that has been annoying me is recieving an SMS whilst making a SIP call causes a crash - hoping that is fixed....
I was playing K-Rally (well worth buying from idreams.pl btw) and it just switched to the Nokia logo suddenly then powered down. A call may have come through, but nothing came up on the screen...

BUT!!!
All my Calendar entries were gone!
I'd backed them up to the Memory Card & onto PC Suite
but neither will reinstall the calendar entries back on.
The way I solved it was whipped out my poor dear sad old N80, and with PC Suite, transferred the Calendar entries onto that then had to manually copy any note worthy reminders.
Inconvenient?
YES!
And i've tried restoring it multiple times through PC Suite & by restoring backed up memory from SD Card.
Silly N95.
Other than that, nothing bad so far.
Changed the product code, then flashed the N95...
THEN sync'd my phone to outlook down.
Sorted.
I just got my Nokia N95 upgraded to:
V 11.0.026
17-04-07
RM-159
Nokia N95 (13.01)
I'm lovin this new firmware because of some new add-ons to features. Mind you that I never had any problems with my N95 since the day I purchased it. The new firmware has fixed the "mars" effect on pictures and so much more. By the way, some people mentioned that they had downloaded a 113 MB firmware for N95 but for me, it's only 109 MB. What's up with that? But when I compare my N95 firmware version to others, mine got the "Nokia N95 (13.01)" and other people got only "Nokia N95 (01.01)" I guess mine has minor-advanced or should I say the latest out there. I can be wrong but this is what I get when I punch *#0000#. My N95 got faster response time than ever specially when I hit the multi-media key!
Where are you from? I'm from Malaysia, and after i update my firmware, it came out as:
V 11.0.026
17-04-07
RM-159
Nokia N95 (12.01)
How come you got the number (13.01)?
even when i try opening gallery, its unable due to insufficient memory! and if i go into file manager an try to delete anything, again, not enough memory lol

Notice that some areas have 2 product codes? I don’t know what that means.(PROBABLY FOR MOCHA AND SAND COLOUR VERSION)
Is there way of manually getting a hold of the update?
Thanks
I re-checked the newly installed firmware in my N95 and still it shows:

Nokia N95 (13.01)
I guess it depends on our country? I'm in the Philippines and you are in Malaysia - we are both in asia! I guess Nokia has a little something-something for every country huh? Correct me guys if i'm wrong.
By the way, I noticed with this new firmware thast the multi-media menu can have a "start-up sound" enabled as well as sounds when you click on to select other icons. I'm just wondering, can we modify that sound? I have installed "Y Browser" - (a file explorer) but I haven't had any luck finding the multi-media menu sounds.
Anyone can help me on this? I got some cool sounds to replace them :)
I have a problem to update firmware from 10. version to 11. version. My phone is appeared different from other of my friends who use N95 when we type *#0000#:

and they can update but mine cannot. Can anybody knows that what is happening.
Thanks in advance
I live in South Africa - i have the v10 firmware...
Many people seem to be able to update to v11... however, when i use NSU to try and update, it says no updates are available?!
So, is there any way to download the 109MB file and update myself??
Thanks
1)back-up phone to memory card,
2)change your product code,
3)then update the phone,
4)then change your product code back to what it was,
5)and then restore from memory card
Or you can wait until an update is released for your particular product code.
this is the product code i used to update my phone (sand) uk 0534841
I have an orange n95 if I download the...
0536062 EURO1 - Plum
Will this enable SIP on my phone?
Thanks

1) Camera screen looks darker than before. The photos taken previously would appear darker on gallery. The photos look the same as before if you load them on PC but it's really hard to judge the quality of the photo on the phone screen.
2) Whenever I activate the previously paried bluetooth handsfree, the phone crashes but if I go to the phone and connect it to the handsfree, that would work. I then reset phone setting, then repair the two from scratch,it then would work.
Otherwise the phone seems to be more stable than before. Hopefully the next firmware will solve the problem. NOKIA PLEASE TAKE NOTE.
Anybvody has the same problems?
Where can we all shout loud enough to make a difference? The EFF?
http://www.ofcom.org.uk - they are the telecommunications regulator in the UK with the power to reprimand and fine for non-competitive practices.
I was wondering how to use the top media keys in N95 when playing games (would be cool to play horizontal mode) Let's give Nokia shout to implement it in new firmware
nokia n95
Can any one please help me.
Thanks
Thanks
But the problem is that the firmware pic has been dates as 10th October! How come no one's got it still remains a mystery...
