GPS Lock Taking Too Long? Try Google Location Server supl.google.com
Once the Nokia 8MP cam phone comes out, the picture changes yet again.
Don't forget rumours of the N96 not having a graphic chip either. Having choices is one thing, but having choice of an N85 or N96, I'd got with the N85 everyday.
However, going by the specifications, of course i feel n 85 has definitely got more relevant features than n 96 and is more user friendly. My 'second' vote to n 85.
I was thinking on a N96 for this winter, but this post is really changing my mind.
Thanks for your blog. Funny to read your post as I think the same. I wrote about it yesturday on my blog.
Here is the link translated in English by Google.
I suspect that's overrated in terms of photographic advantage.
With a LED photo-light you have a possible BUILT IN FLASHLIGHT, which in my book is really usable !

OLED display - haven't seen one yet.
What RESOLUTION does it feature ?
- Size matters, but resolution matters just as much.
the only point where i see the LED better than the xenon is video! LED allows some light in low light videos where the xenon will work.

And the lack of left-hand support while in landscape mode is just plain rude.
nokia 3310 is better than the n85.
untill they make 8 megapixels
divx player
32+ GB
3" screen
windows
etc.........................
nothing beats the N96
Personally, if DVB was something worthwhile in the US, I'd say the N96 was slightly better as that would literally mean mobile TiVo. The N85 can stream Flash, but mobile TiVo would really be something to play with.
You could buy just a Slingbox. With the S60 Slingbox player and 3G, you could have Tivo everywhere.
However the main selling point of the N96 for me was the TV tuner.Uf that doesn't work with freeview in the UK then it seems a bit pointless to sell it here.
I guess it'll be the N85 for me too unless they put a DVB-T tuner in for us.
The new N85 is noticeably thinner, which means less of a bulge in the pocket. This is a major factor when deciding o nwhich phone to get, esp. for the non-techie.
nokia 3310 is better than the n85.
untill they make 8 megapixels
divx player
32+ GB
3″ screen
windows
etc…………………….
now that's i call showing love and respect.
nothing beats the N96
Screen is large for the N96, which consumes a lot of battery. 32GB can cause your machine to slow down.
N85 may not have all the specs like N96 have. But as a normal user like us, our average use during the whole day is the N85. We don't need the extra N96 specs/app because most of us doesnt even use it or rarely use it.
N85, I'm getting it. Cheap for cheap thrills.
I agree picking up the frequency for T-Mo would have been a great idea, but it also would have been a great idea to add xenon flash, HD video, waterproof, etc.
i have the big cuestion if the 9.2 applications will work in this new feature pack 9.3?
i know that a big amount of them wont work, but approx what percent you guys think?
- i'm not buying any 8MP phone because it a waste of money. 8MP will just add to the price. I don't even used often my N82's 5MP even if I'm a photo enthusiast because its not part of my regular and normal routine.
- i'll buy N96 if i'm rich but never be fooled by specs that i dont need like 8MP
- i'll never ever buy Samsung products because of durability issues. putting low grade parts on their mobile device is a wicked business that Samsung have mastered.
I wonder if they fixed the N82 problem of overcompression (or actually, it's the complete lack of ability to select compression levels) on the N85. The N82 took one of the best pictures for a camera phone (or maybe the very best), but it handicapped itself by overcompressing.
One thing is that it CONSTANTLY had white-balance problem, no matter what condition.

Regarding the puny little xenon-flashes some cam-phones feature - of course placed in close proximity to the lens : and thus giving severe red-eye problems - I suspect they're overrated in terms of photographic advantage.

Camera phones don't need more Megapixels, they need better lenses - make a wish for optic zoom ! - and better photographic tools for adjustment.
best thing is OLED
and that it
it as a small screen (same size as the n95)
i have used the n95 8gb and the n96
and the bigger screen makes up for the oled
also the n85 as crap phone internal memory
oh dear if the n95 is to go by
so there
Iv'e just been reading about n96 coming with bbci player. I wonder if the n85 will do this? W hat a cool feature. You can even save the programs you watch on your memory card forever (not possible oniphone).
George.
the nokia didnt name nokia n85 as n85 if it can SURPASS n96...hahaha....
Its Crashed on me countless times today and the flash is pathetic in the dark. the n96 cant even play its own videos back withouth jerky picture or sound. im am deeply dissapointed as i have been waiting for ages for this.
had a play with my mates n82... now thats a flash... jst cant decide between n82 or n85.
So if you want a bigger screen, buy the N96. If you want a smaller phone (incl. screen) and safe some money buy the N85. If you wanna safe more money and care even less about the phone buy the N79. They basically have all the same funtions. So it's just a personal preference. Tho I'd go for the N85.
can any body post a comparison b/n N 82 & N 85
thx in advance
Why in the hell make a new model that's in the same line and still lacks importand functions (N85 and N96 both have no standard VOIP client)???
I'll keep my E51 for the moment.
i got new phone n85 .........
it is best deal to do .......
camera , screen ,music, gps, etc all the things rocks in this ..
...
Btw can anyone confirm tomtom using the built-in gps module (maybe by using the BINPDA patch)??
Thanks
Cuetian
just wanna to check with you all...does n85 support push mail?and how much does it cost now (m'sia)?
I have three seasons of Justice League Unlimited on my 8gb card as well as 560 songs (around 53 hrs of music) and around 924 pictures. Still have 1.6gb free so memory isn't a problem.
and it's fast. with my n95, if i loaded more than 30 java games, it became sluggish. with the n85, no lag. fastest load time from powered off to accessing memory i've seen.
awesome, awesome phone....except for 2 problems. gps with nokia maps is off. shows my location 50-300 meters off as opposed to google maps which is accurate. hopefully firmware update will correct this.
and, although scrolling through the gallery is much, much faster than on n85. the info on each image doesn't include what album it belongs to. it's a seperate tag, which is kinda annoying.
oh and when music player is on, if usb is connected. it attempts to "refresh" itself which is annoying
the second think i can say that n96 has the media keys on top and its very useful
but short battery life and lcd screen disadvantages for n96
I have just one thing in mind: OLED SCREEN's DURABILITY,since my hands get wet more frequently due to sweat.Im thinking how my situation affect OLED's Life, since it isn't water resistant.
